Flying over the gorgeous South Dakota scenery while enjoying the utter peace that washes over you thousands of feet above the noise and chaos of everyday life is one thing few can imagine or have experienced. South Dakota was the perfect place for us to launch into hot air ballooning because of the stunning natural backdrop she provides our guests. The widely varied landscapes and iconic landmarks along the way give way to the best aerial tours any visitor or resident could ever ask for. While we have had many years here and still continue to discover new routes and places to see, we have developed a list of our favorite places we have visited in our glorious state that we would like to share with our guests.
Custer State Park: Custer State Park is located in the most beautiful region of prairie lands we have ever seen, but our favorite site here is the wild buffalo that roam the 71,000 acres.
Mount Rushmore Park: Mt. Rushmore is not easily seen from the sky as it is surrounded by beautiful forests amongst Keystone’s gorgeous portion of the Black Hills, but it is worth a hike once you land.
Sylvan Lake: The wonderfully scenic view of the sparkling waters of Custer State Park’s “crown jewel” is something not to be passed up, offering a gorgeous one mile of shoreline.
The Badlands: From the skyline of pinnacles and spires to the lush grasslands and buttes, the Badlands is one of the most beautiful undisturbed environments in the nation.
The Black Hills: The Black Hills encompass many of the previously mentioned sights and they deserve their own place on our list as being the most widely varied yet beautiful landscape known to man "or at least known to us".
Each flight is different and more unique than the last as our balloons are steered by the winds. Due to this, we can never guarantee views of these incredible places, however, we can assure you that you will see a side of SD you have never seen before and become amazed regardless. One hour is all we need to inspire awe in our passengers and give them the flight they will never forget.
BECAUSE TRAVELLING IN A HOT AIR BALLOON IS SO DIFFERENT FROM OTHER METHODS OF FLIGHT THESE DAYS, IT WILL BE UNLIKE EVERY OTHER JOURNEY YOU CAN HAVE IN THE SKY.
Balloon rides happen in the early morning and late evening. Both scheduled times of day ensure that it won't be overly hot and it's difficult not to enjoy a view like that. The flights offered around sundown occur two to three hours prior to sundown, which is a good option if you aren't an early riser.
AS YOU ARE ARE LIFTED INTO THE AIR, YOUR CRAFT IS ONE WITH THE AIR.
The moment your balloon sets off, you will wind up drifting along approximately 500 to 3,000 feet in the air. Weather permitting, a hot air balloon can reach all the way up to 10,000 feet. Considering that you find yourself in a balloon, this trip doesn't truly have a specific destination. Typically your balloon will end up touring somewhere between 2 and 5 miles over the course of roughly an hour.
This trip is all about you, so you can only count on the best from us. Each of our pilots is a guaranteed specialist. Every single qualified professional partnering with us must be in ownership of a Pilot's Certificate and license through the Federal Aviation Administration.

The first account of man reaching the sky was in a balloon. From the very first ride in the 1700's, hot air balloons have stood the test of time.
Much may have changed in the past centuries, but hot air balloons are still pretty simple. Filled with hot air by heaters, the balloon just above you is a bigger-than-life sight to behold.
Exactly as there are all types of reasons for hot air ballooning, the balloons are available in all sizes and shapes. Hot air balloons are rather versatile too, having the capacity to hold as many as 16 people in one trip. Numbers of 4, 8, 10, and 12 people are the most popular though.
As the balloons themselves are hoisted using hot air, it's good to understand how that functions. The reason you get to enjoy a tranquil and amazing view from up above is because cool air is denser than hot. When the balloon is full of hot air it is hoisted into the sky by the cool air all around it. Because of this you can actually move on air.READ MORE
